DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING

Why Carrying out D&A Testing is Beneficial

Creating a safe work environment is crucial to ensuring employees feel comfortable, protected, and healthy, without risking their own or others’ safety. Drug and alcohol testing helps prevent potential hazards and maintain a secure workplace. Testing can also highlight issues early, allowing organisations to offer non-judgemental support and guidance to employees who may be struggling with substance misuse, helping them get the assistance they need.

Recommended Frequency: In accordance with Companies Drug and Alcohol Policy. This is carried out during working hours 08.30 am to 16.00pm.

Appointment Times: 15 to 20 minutes If a positive breathalyser occurs a repeat breath test is carried out 20 minutes later.

If a non negative is detected for a drug screen a full chain of custody procedure is required and this takes 20 minutes. Results are available within 5 working days from an independent Laboratory

ALCOHOL TEST

Breath test using an Lions Alcohol meter. Testing is carried out to the Scottish Drink Drive levels. It is important that Companies have a Drug and Alcohol Policy in place and refer to Company standards.

Reasons for Assessments

To ensure employees are not under the influence of Alcohol at work.

Recommended Frequency: In accordance with Companies Drug and Alcohol Policy.

Appointment Times: 10 minute appointment if a positive breathalyser is detected a repeat breath is carried out 20 minutes later

RANDOX TESTING

An out of hours service for drug and alcohol testing Ethos Health. Randox offer an alcohol breath test and conduct a urine test for 12 drugs. They operate between 08:00 am to 18:00 pm and 18:00pm to 08:00 am. Also covers weekends and bank holidays (if contract in place).

Reasons for Assessments

Randox operate within a 2 hour window following initial contact to arrive on site. They offer a wide range of services including Pre-Employment for certain contracts, random, with cause at customer locations if a contract is in place or at certain locations within the UK and Ireland.

Recommended Frequency: In accordance with Companies Drug and Alcohol Policy.

Appointment Times: 30 minute appointment is offered however it can take up to 2 hours depending on how long it takes to secure a urine sample.
