PRE EMPLOYMENT FOR PLANT BASED OPERATIVES

Includes: blood pressure, pulse, height, weight, BMI, lung function, audio, skin assessment, night worker assessment, HAV’S if required. VO2 max chester step, vision to include near, far, colour and peripheral both with and without correction, musculoskeletal assessment including mobility and balance check

Reasons for Assessments

Employers are obliged to identify tasks that potential employees may have to undertake in the role, the aim is to ensure suitable controls are in place and the employee prior to being deemed fit to undertake the role and assist reduce harm to self or others in the workplace.

Fitness maybe affected by ill health (so far as foreseeable) or side effects of medication or impaired as a results of alcohol or prescribed or non prescribed drugs a drug and alcohol test can be conducted at the same time as health assessment.

Appointment Times: 60 to 90 minutes depending if drug and alcohol test has been undertaken

BREATHING APPARATUS / CONFINED SPACE ASSESSMENTS

Includes: blood pressure, pulse, height, weight, BMI, lung function, audio, skin assessment, VO2 max chester step, vision to include near, far, colour and peripheral both with and without correction, muscoskeletal assessment including mobility and balance check

Reasons for Assessments

Breathing apparatus is required in situations where oxygen-deficient atmospheres can occur. Confined space medicals are designed to determine whether workers are medically fit to enter and perform tasks in enclosed spaces such as any vessel, tank, container, cellar, or similar space. By ensuring that workers are medically cleared, employers can reduce the likelihood of accidents, injuries, and other health issues related to working in confined spaces.

Recommended Frequency: Annually

SAFETY CRITICAL – INCLUDES

Reasons for Assessments

The safety critical medical is an occupational health assessment to ensure that employees operating in a safety critical work environment are fit to perform the tasks required. There are variations in the assessments available based on the type of industry. The aim of conducting hearing tests is to ensure ability to hear warning sounds not for health surveillance purposes. Respiratory health to determine functional ability and aerobic capacity to manage specfic situations, tasks, stairs, ladders.Visual acuity incudes central vision and any visual dysfunction and colour differentiation is essental to tasks. Drug and Alchol can affect ability to carry out normal role and can conflict with prescribed medication.

Recommended Frequency: 2 Yearly intervals

DRIVER MEDICAL / LIFT TRUCKS ASSESSMENT

Includes: FLT / Cherry Picker – includes health declaration questionnaire, distance vision corrected and uncorrected, whisper test if fail a full audio would be conducted, muscoskeletal assessment including mobility and balance check.

Reasons for Assessments

Operators who drive a Forklift Truck (FLT) vehicle or any other similar vehicle, they need to make sure they familiarise their selves with the risks and ensure they are medically fit to undertake this duty.

Recommended Frequency: Pre placement or Initial

45 to 65 years – then 5 year intervals

65 years and above – annual thereafter, or sooner if clinically indicated

Appointment Times: 45 minutes

AIRSIDE HEALTH ASSESSMENTS

Includes: health declaration questionnare, height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, pulse, urinalysis, visual acuity, distance, near both corrected and uncorrected, visual fields, colour vision and a whispher test

Reasons for Assessments

Anyone driving on airside roads or apron areas, the aim of the assessment is to ensure that employees do not have any medical conditions that could endanger themselves , other people and aircraft. The responsibility of ensuring safety of airside operations falls under the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and relevant HSE Legislation.

Recommended Frequency: Pre placement – Initial – 5 yearly up to 65 years – then 5 year intervals

65 years and above – annual thereafter

Appointment Times: 45 minutes

OGUK MEDICALS

Includes health declaration questionnaire, height, weight, BMI, vision distance, near and colour, audiogram, ERT fitness – chester step, lung function, muscoskeletal assessment, urinalysis, drug and alcohol, OHP examination and certification

Reasons for Assessments

OGUK medicals are recognised as the industry standard medical requirement for all workers in the UK offshore oil and gas industry. They are sometimes also used by other employers like the wind turbine industry or international remote working as they demonstrate a good fitness of fitness for those roles.

Appointment Times: 90 – 120 Minute appointment
